Foot Notes

Know The Source Of Pain
April 3 , 2007 - Morning Call Article

Foot pain may occur for a variety of reasons, and the first step toward relief is knowing the source.

Running or playing surfaces: Athletes who train on asphalt or cement are more prone to stress injuries than those who run on cushioned tracks or natural grass fields.

Shoes: Engaging in one sport more than three times a week? Wear shoes designed for the sport.

Training: Failure to build strength gradually may lead to injuries.

Behavioral factors: In children, overuse injuries sometimes occur from excessive parental pressure to achieve in sports.

Nutrition: Stress fractures can occur in athletes with poor nutrition.

Over-training: This may also lead to sleeping problems, irritability and fatigue.

Physical characteristics: Individuals who are bowlegged or out of alignment may develop structural or muscle pain.
