Flip-Flopping Pain
July 10, 2007 - Morning Call Article
Flip-flops, so popular in summer, are responsible for a growing epidemic of heel pain among teens and young adults, a group that usually doesn't have the problem, according to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Wearing flip-flops with paper-thin soles every day may accentuate any abnormal biomechanics in foot motion and eventually bring pain and inflammation.
The remedy? Wear thicker-soled sandals with supportive arches. While they may be less fashionable, they'll help prevent heel pain.
Adam J. Teichman, DPM, A.A.C.F.A.S., is a podiatric foot and ankle surgeon
with a practice in Allentown.
