Foot Notes
Check List For Little Feet
October 30 , 2007 - Morning Call Article
After a summer of bare feet and sandals, choose your children's shoes with care.
Do the bottom of your child's shoes show uneven wear? A shoe worn on the big
toe side could signal poor arch support or flat feet. Children with flat
feet are at risk for arthritis later in life if the problem is left
untreated.
Does your child walk irregularly? Is one leg longer than the other or do
feet turn in or out excessively? A heel lift may restore proper balance and
help prevent scoliosis.
Does your preschooler walk on her toes? Stretching exercises can correct
tightness in the Achilles tendon area that will help prevent lower back
pain.
Does your child often trip or stumble or complain of tired legs, night pains
and cramping? There's no such thing as ''growing pains,'' so when kids
complain they might have flat feet or another disorder that should be
evaluated.
